This segment is a good one because Geography King examines 11 places where there are satellite cities and countiesthat happen to be the outer edges of 2 or more bigger census areas. Note Solano County, California is one of them given that they are on the outer edges of both Sacramento and San Francisco Bay Area and this areas has to respond to suburban sprawl from both places plus complaints over housing expenses in both places. Full Disclosure I am in one of the households where the majority of my family commutes to the Bay Area for work but I commute to Sacramento for work and share the same house.
However I didn’t know where to look for other parts of the United States similar to Solano County, California until I seen this one. The video mentioned ten other places in the United States where suburban areas having to serve two separate census areas. Here are the places mentioned in the video.
Columbia, Maryland halfway from Washington and Baltimore
Douglas County, Colorado halfway from Denver and Colorado Springs.
Flagler County, Florida halfway from Jacksonville and Daytona
Gordon County, Georgia halfway from Atlanta and Chattanooga
Madison County, Ohio halfway from Springfield and Columbus
Hill County, Texas halfway from Waco and Fort Worth-Dallas areas
Kenosha, Wisconsin halfway from Chicago and Milwaukee areas
Alamance County, North Carolina halfway from Raleigh and Greensboro areas
Cherokee County, South Carolina halfway from Charlotte, NC and Greensville, SC
Princeton, New Jersey halfway from Philadelphia and New York
All in all I learned there are other places around the United States on this list I never considered would have to deal with similar issues to Solano County, California. The ones I did expect to be on the list are located in New Jersey, Maryland, Wisconsin and Texas its because the core cities are expensive to have a home and also places where I expect people are most likely to “work from home” are located. Yes and this is the location where one suburban areas has to respond to rush hour traffic from two different census areas at the same time. Overall population growth to these places may vary depending on the economic conditions of both the areas mentioned here and the surrounding core cities.
